John Kerry is running against the incumbent, George W. Bush, for president in the 2004 election. Kerry was elected to be a United States Senator in 1984, and was reelected in 1990, 1996, and 2002.

John Kerry served in the Vietnam War and also served as a Viet Nam War protestor.
